Borneo Pygmy Elephant

The Borneo pygmy elephant is a subspecies of Asian elephant that inhabits northeastern Borneo, in Indonesia and Malaysia. The Sultan of Sulu was thought to have introduced captive elephants to Borneo in the 18th century, which were released into the jungle. Borneo elephants are more likely to have derived from Sundaic stock and are indigenous to Borneo, rather than having been introduced by humans.

Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary:

Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary is located within an oil palm estate about 38 kilometres from Sandakan. The monkeys at Labuk Bay are wild and free to roam the mangroves but they are highly habituated. The mangroves of Labuk Bay are home to more than just the proboscis monkeys! Silvered leaf monkeys, otters, slow lorises, and hornbills are just some of the many species you can spot on a day at the sanctuary.
